Medical Billing and the Discrepancy Paradox of the Rising Healthcare Costs

health care spending continues to grow at its fastest rate in our history. In 2005, total national health care costs rose 6.9 percent - twice the rate of inflation - reaching $ 2 trillion, or $ 6,700 per person [Catlin, Cowan, Heffler, et al, 2006]. Currently the total spending represents 16 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). In the next decade, U.S. health care spending is expected to increase at a similar level, reaching $ 4 trillion in 2015 [Borger et al, 2006 ].

Although some experts argue that our health care system is expensive because it is riddled with inefficiencies, excessive administrative expenses, inflated prices, poor management, waste, inadequate, and fraud [health insurance cost, 2008], at least the remaining three key factors, namely, aging population, expensive medical innovations, and defensive work, contribute significantly to the overall cost picture.

  1. An aging population - In the U.S., the share of population aged> 65 years is projected to increase from 12.4% in 2000 to 19.6% in 2030.Broj persons aged> 65 years is expected to increase from about 35 million in 2000 to an estimated $ 71 million in 2030, a number of persons aged> 80 years is expected to increase from 9.3 million in 2000 to 19,500,000 in 2030 [Public health and aging: Trends in aging --- United States and worldwide, 2008, Kaiser Family Foundation, 2006]. "A growing number of elderly people is increasing demands on the public system and social services. Chronic diseases that affect older adults disproportionately, contribute to disability, reduced quality of life and increased costs." [UN, 2002] 125 million Americans have one or more chronic diseases (eg congestive heart failure, diabetes.) Chronic diseases account for 75% of all health care expenditures. Source: Burrill & Company, 2006
  2. expensive innovations -
    • U.S. biotech industry surpassed the pharmaceutical companies for the third consecutive year as the primary source of new drugs, and biotech revenue jumped nearly 16 percent to a record $ 50.7 billion in 2005. Source: Ernst & Young LLP, 2006
    • the United States is the world's largest and wealthiest pharmaceutical market, accounting for about 48% of the world. Per capita expenditure on drugs is U.S. $ 1,069 in 2006, almost double the level found in the rest of the world. Source: Espicom Business Intelligence, 2006
    • ... about 30% of new products in development are "combo products" - including medical devices with built-in components or pharmaceutical Biologics. [Combination Products-Navigation Two FDA Quality Systems, Microtest White Paper, 2007]. The market combination products is estimated at $ 5.9B in 2004, and will continue to grow at a compound annual rate of 10% by 2009. By 2009, the market is expected to reach nearly $ 9.5B in the world with most of the revenue from the drug eluting stents and steroid-eluting electrodes. Source: Navigant Consulting, Inc. In 2004, the U.S. held about 65% of drug-device combination products on the market. By 2010, the U.S. is projected to retain 57%. Source: Business Communications Inc
  3. "defensive" medicine - "One of the major cost in the delivery of health care, and junk and frivolous lawsuits risk of frivolous litigation drives doctors. - I heard on this - driving doctors to prescribe drugs and procedures that May not be necessary just to avoid lawsuits to be called the defensive practice of medicine ..... See, lawsuits not only drive up premiums, which runs. the cost to the patient or the patient's employer, but lawsuits cause the documents to practice medicine in an expensive way to protect yourself in the courtroom. defensive practice of medicine affects the federal budget. a direct cost of liability insurance ineizravne cost of unnecessary medical procedures raise costs for the federal government at least $ 28 billion annually. "[the U.S. President George Bush, Arkansas, 26 January 2004]

Now let us observe a paradox:

  1. On the one hand, participants in each secondary industries, including insurance companies, hi-tech and pharmaceutical engineers and scientists, and lawyers, have increased their profits in step with the increase in cost at all speeds up the pace.
  2. On the other hand, medical and chiropractic office owners - real service - not only failed to keep up with raising costs, but they lost a significant portion of their income. In fact, between 1995 and 1999, at a time when most wages in the U.S. rose 3.5 percent after adjusting for inflation, average physician net income from the practice of medicine, adjusted for inflation, fell 5 percent [Reed and Ginsburg, 2003 ]. In 2006, median compensation for the specialty and the primary physician grew only 1.7 ($ 322,259) and 2 ($ 171,519) per cent or more slowly than the CPI of 3.2 percent [MGMA physician compensation and production survey: 2007 Report] . For comparison, the costs of health care to beat inflation by 3.5%, achieving an annual growth rate of 6.7 [consumption, 2008]
divert our focus away from trying to find solutions to the problem of rising costs health care, ask another question: How, as a paradoxical situation is possible without deliberate and systematic strategy against the service?

Medical Care Related Information For Nurses to Improve Patient Health

sisters in almost all medical and physical setting, where injuries and illnesses present sebe.Medicinsku assessment process and the subsequent written report of findings are crucial not only to provide adequate medical care, but to educate patients about their disease and teach them how to care for themselves and immediate future. It is also important that family and friends (if not the family) will be part of the wellness process goes forward.

Since nurses are the front lines of so many different types of drugs, they work as a team member with other disciplines, such as doctors, physiotherapists, speech therapists and social workers. Working as a team has many advantages for the patient and the team itself, in the identification of fundamental disabilities can be more easily identified. It is important for goal setting and events of medical improvements that should be measurable and achievable.

Unfortunately, many patients are not given the opportunity to use fully the health care system in the United States as well as treatment depends on the insurance and medical payments. Many people are disabled or mentally, physically, or both, and repeatedly re-admitted to the medical system. They can not or will not take care of themselves. Lack of insurance can mean the minimum discharged before they are ready.

It is important that nurses recognize this disability sufficiently instruct patients in the department of social services, so these patients can be evaluated for social security disability, Medicaid, Medicare and related programs. Diseases that can sabotage self care, such as depression, bipolar disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, or physical problems that remain undiagnosed and untreated they can all go undetected by nurses. They can not have the training feeling that there is a greater problem.

nurses can refer patients who might have such disabilities psychiatrist, as well as, or debate this kind consult with your doctor. With a distinct and diagnosis of disability, the patient can then be used for insurance that will allow them to be kind of treatment they need. As a nurse, it's part of your responsibility for improving the health of the patient and acting on their needs that go beyond the hospital bed, work and family benefit patients. Although not responsible for the provision of medical diagnosis, the doctor is aware that problem exists, is something you can do.

Meeting The Cost Of Medical Care Without Health Insurance

health care spending is growing faster today than at any time in history, and a whopping 80 percent of all Americans today say they are dissatisfied with the way health care is managed and financed. Indeed, 60 percent of all Americans has gone so far as to say they were very dissatisfied.

National health expenditure in the U.S. is now almost $ 2.5 trillion (representing more than $ 7,500 per person), and this figure is expected to grow to more than $ 4 trillion over the next ten years. Currently this is more than double the consumption of health care in countries such as Switzerland, Germany, France and Canada and has more than four times the amount the U.S. spends on national defense.

In short, the United States spends more on healthcare than most other industrialized countries (many of which provide health care for all citizens) and yet, despite the incredibly high level of expenditure has more than 47 million Americans without any form of health of insurance. It is a national disgrace!

But, of course, only part of the picture, because things are often a little better for those with health insurance osiguranja.Trošak is now so high that half of all Americans to say as his top economic relations and the increasing number of people or limit their cover to meet their budget or accept what they have in reality already unmanageably high deductibles and out-of pocket expenses.

Every 30 seconds someone in the U.S. file for bankruptcy as a result of a serious medical problem and more than half of all bankruptcies today are the result of problems with medical bills. Indeed, the average debt of medical bills for people filing for bankruptcy is now $ 12,000.

When we talk about health care costs without health insurance are not only talking about the financial cost, but also about the cost in terms of ruined lives. Of course, medical bills do not force everyone into bankruptcy, but many families are forced to make significant changes to their lifestyle to pay their medical bills and millions of Americans often delay treatment of serious medical conditions simply because they can not meet expenses.

In this presidential election season is not surprising to find that health care and health insurance in particular, comes high on the agenda, but will simply be used as a political weapon to get votes or will there be significant changes in the direction of the 2009 to begin to solve this major problem? Only time will tell, of course, but look back the past few years, hardly anyone can inspire us to believe that whoever ends up in the White House, he or she is likely to be able to do anything to make a significant difference for those of us who want nothing more than to provide adequate protection for themselves and their families.

Prehistoric Medicine - The Dawn of Human Health Care

Very little is known about prehistoric fossils, except medicine, implements and cave drawings. Disease shows its marks on the human remains and broken bones were a common problem. It is believed that prehistoric humans is much like animals, licking wounds, resting when sick or is injured, seeking warmth when cold and cold when it's hot.

Prehistoric medicine and religion

Divine intervention certainly precedes the prehistoric medicine. Possible evidence shows that what we call holistic medicine today has perhaps always been ingrained part of human nature. It seems to have always been unanimous awareness of good and bad in all cultures. Since the beginning of recorded history, medicine and religion co-exist and must conclude, prehistoric medicine and religion.

Humanity is probably to blame for the evil spirits of disease and pestilence. The petition for divine power prayers and rituals in the name of welfare. This is one of the earliest principles of pre-medicine, which persisted to this day. This is the one that was dropped from the mainstream of modern Western medicine, which is incomplete, despite scientific advances in human health.

cave drawing shows a figure showing the human body with the head of deer may be a shaman or medicine man. Such specialists in prehistoric medicine relied on human sacrifices, incantations, and chanting the Supreme Being (s) for the benefit of sick people, infusing inanimate objects such as bones and sticks, and an evil spirit from a sick or diseased person, so remove the evil spirit of that person.

Prehistoric medicine and agriculture

Maybe Adamic scene of the garden, and some Chinese pictographs that have survived from ancient times show garden scene in striking detail describing prehistoric medicine at its dawn.

Fossil human skull with holes bored or ground out of them were found, some of them are quite large. There is evidence that some of these unfortunate souls to survive this ordeal. This process is known as a drill and deemed to have been done to release the evil spirits from the body. Cave paintings showing pressure relieving migraine headaches, seizures and mental poremećaja.Dio bone taken from the skull is said to have been worn as an amulet for warding off evil spirits. Although there May be some medical significance of this practice.

Prehistoric contributions of modern medicine and alternative medicine

The earliest American residents who are said to have ventured out of Africa and the ancient European cultures and transferred to the Far East as it was in prehistoric times. If these people settled in the Far East for any length of time, they May have brought medical knowledge as it is known on the American continent during the Ice Age. Migrating across the American continent, brought his medical knowledge with them and adjusting the difficulty in making new resources available to them. For the most part, these people become a culture lost in time, although remaining in prehistoric holistic living.

Europeans make landfall in North America much later, and indigenous American medical knowledge to his still very primitive and medieval medical knowledge. It is known today that many of the Indians therapeutic procedures are superior to those of Europeans at the earliest time. Indeed, some of them came to us in conventional medicine today.

Specialty Medical Scales to Gauge Accurate Health Conditions

Medical scales, as the name suggests is mainly used in hospitals and medical clinics to assess the health quotient of different patients. Well, there are some that are designed for other healthy patients to assess factors such as weight, body fat content, etc. However, in this article, you will get to know about only those specialty medical scales that are used in special cases.

Baby Scales:
Yes, you got it right. These medical scales used to assess the weight of the baby, right from birth to their different stages of growth. While some used to monitor your baby's growth accurately measuring her weight and length, there are others who have digital type and come with easy to read LCD display. Digital Medical Scales:

Digital Medical Scales:...

Mechanical scales:
Mechanical medical scales are expensive and therefore used only in large hospitals and health centers. They use the dial, are durable and offer a reliable reading. However, rare to find them these days due to the advent of digital scales.

Scales Chair:
Chair scales are built specifically for patients with special health care problems, you can call it the most functional chair scales available today. Some of them come with handles for easier movement and a high rate user. One of its many variations is in a wheelchair scale, which also has a wheelchair along with the patient. They are ideal for all types of health care settings.

Some of these charts can also tell you the necessary body fat that should be there by your age and height.

In addition to these there are many other medical scales available on the market today.

Sleep Deprivation Harms Students Performance, Mood, and Health

It happens every student at one time or another. Every teacher on campus is assigned to work the same week. Volunteer work and social activities clog the calendar. Before long, the task is due in the morning, so what else is there to do? Boil a pot of coffee and start once again that the most storied college tradition:. All nighter

Many students have found themselves in this position. Although the study late into the wee hours is pretty well accepted part of college life, the scientific consensus is clear -. Not getting enough sleep is bad for students, happiness and health

Sleep is one of the most vital body processes, which affect everything from muscle strength in memory retention. Sleep increases blood flow to the muscles and repairing damaged stanica.Nedavna study shows that college basketball players on the field better, if they sleep less than ten hours the night before. Sleep consolidates memories, and prepares the brain to perform - the students who get more sleep can improve the ability to think and actually perform better on tests than students who spend all night cramming

.

How much sleep a person needs varies, but Dr. William DeMent at Stanford University says that students need more than eight hours per night. With the accumulation of tasks, many students end up chronically sleep. Dr. DeMent explained that students accumulate a "sleep debt." Sleep debt can get bigger over time, and this can only be "paid" upon arrival in the amount of sleep your body needs. Of course, the person's body to force them to the amount of sleep they need for them to feel drowsy. No caffeine, stimulants, pressing deadlines and procrastination encourage students to ignore the body's natural signals and go without sleep much longer than it should.

In the short term, sleep deprivation can be dangerous. This reduces response time and makes people more easily distracted. This is a bad test taking, and even worse for students who are vožnje.Studija conducted in Britain showed that after a sleepless 17 to 19 hours, the drivers as they were impaired as drivers with a blood alcohol level of.05 . Thousands of accidents each year are caused by drowsy driving.

In the long term, chronic lack of sleep harms students' health and quality of life. Sleep causes students to be irritable, easily frustrated and more likely to go wrong. Chronic lack of sleep over a long period is a serious health risk. Not getting enough sleep is associated with hypertension, obesity and heart failure. Studies even show that people who do not report getting at least 6 hours of sleep per night have a higher mortality rate than those who sleep well.

It is easy to get caught up in the excitement and stress of college life and to get in the habit of getting to bed later and later. However, while the body and schedules its limits does not come without a price. In the short term, lack of sleep affects mood, mental capacity and physical performance. In the long run, not getting enough sleep can sacrifice their health and shorten life expectancy. There are more than enough reason to hit the sack early tonight!

Not Getting Enough Sleep Can Harm Your Health

We have all the time when we are awake during the night. We toss and turn, and when we wake up in the morning, have little energy. Sleep (insomnia), has many consequences, including a lack of alertness, reduced efficiency, mental impairment, poor quality of life, job injury, a car injury. Why can not I get a good night's sleep?

In the past few weeks, I became aware of the toll lack of sleep leads to tijelu.Prije month I caught a cold and cough to me awake at night. After a week of interrupted sleep I felt like I was living my life in slow motion. And I was. Although daytime naps help I longed for a solid night of sleep. I took some steps to control my cough, and finally slept through the night.

See your doctor if you have trouble sleeping in progress. He or she can perform tests to evaluate your sleep and scope of your sleep. Drugs can keep you from sleeping, and your doctor can review medications, including over-the-counter ones and additions, see what happens. Your Doctor May from asking you to sleep diary, noting the date, time, drugs that are stressful situations, the food we ate, and whether or not performed. Most doctors ask their patients to this diary for at least a month.

Although I did not keep a diary of sleep, I track the number of nights I was awake, eating bland food, and went for daily walks. Poor sleep is associated with many serious medical illnesses such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke, obesity, psychiatric problems and attention deficit disorder (ADD). So, do everything you can to cure your insomnia. Your health depends on it.
